Clostridium difficile is a healthcare acquired bacterial infection which can cause death in vulnerable patients. A pilot study conducted by BCU Health Board in 2015 showed how Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) could assist in the interpretation of outbreaks. Tableau became integral to the project. Dashboards were used for initial hypothesis generating, data analysis, data visualisation, and engaging with primary and secondary care clinical teams. Within the Health Board, dashboards are now used to improve antibiotic governance. Nationally, Tableau is one of the tool to be used by the new Pathogen Genomics Unit (PenGU).

The Kuehne+Nagel BICC has provided enterprise standard reporting services for decades. To cope with the increasing demand for more interactive and advanced self service dashboarding, an IT initiative was started in 2015 to evaluate and select a tool closing this gap. In this session, you will join me on the journey from the very first step of the required analysis to the successful operation of a Tableau enterprise server setup used by over 3000 users within nearly 18 months. We will have a look at the cultural, financial, technical and operational aspects as well as revealing our findings and conclusions which might be a valuable input for your journey with Tableau.
